The Firm filed one of the first ever applications before the newly formed Competition Commission of India. The matter involved an information memorandum under Section 19(1) of the Competition Act, 2002 for institution of an inquiry regarding cartelization by airlines operating on Indian territory.
There have been a number of key developments in the competition law landscape in India. Under recently introduced regulations, a number of transactions, commercial agreements and business practices have been made subject to complex legal review. Our Firm has responded to these and other developments proactively.
M&A represents a significant portion of our practice. We provide expert advice on many large and complex transactions, often with a cross-border perspective. We have particular expertise in the formation and acquisition of entities, licensing requirements and regulatory compliances.
The Firm has special experience and expertise in the oil and gas sector including drafting, review and negotiation of LNG and gas sale and purchase agreements, production sharing contracts, joint operating agreements, farm-in agreements, on-shore and off-shore drilling contracts and seismic acquisition contracts. We have assisted clients in their oil and gas and mining businesses in West Africa, the Middle East, Myanmar and India.
The Firm is involved in a number of ground-breaking and extremely complex projects in the infrastructure sector including assisting with the development of a portfolio consisting of 600 MW of renewable energy and one of India’s first ever public-private-partnership projects in the social infrastructure sector.
The Firm’s litigation experience covers alternate dispute redressal such as arbitration and conciliation, civil, commercial and criminal litigation including but not limited to family matters pertaining to divorce, marriage and adoption, suits for recovery, suit for possession, mesne profits and damages, suit for injunctions, writs, bails, appeals, revisions, winding up and various other trials with respect to bouncing of cheques, narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances, prevention of corruption, variety of cases under the Indian Penal Code and other local and special laws.
Foreign Direct Investment into India is one of our key areas of expertise. We regularly advise non-Indian entities in relation to setting-up Indian joint ventures and wholly owned subsidiaries in India and assist them with legal and regulatory compliances.
